Due to my recent holiday binge eating I’m currently working on a damage limitation exercise, so I’ve been trying lot of food and drink stuffs that fit into my mantra Operation Try And Eat As Little As Possible Whilst Enjoying Your Food, which is not easy at all I tell you.
Russian Standard Gold
Vodka is my favourite tipple and as such I’ve always wanted to visit Russia to taste first hand some of this amazing beverage. But seeing as this isn’t going to happen soon, why not get a taste of Russia through a drink?! I hear you ask surely booze isn’t the best way to loose weight? If you asked this question my reply is vodka is actually the best drink for those trying to slim, especially if you mix it with diet coke or soda water and b) this vodka has such a lovely quality and subtle yummy vanilla flavour to it – it’s definitely worth minimal amount of calories. Russian Standard Gold is on the premium end of the vodka list, so a bit pricier than your usual Smirnoff but its great flavour makes it worth the investment, plus the packaging looks pretty cool and rather decadent.
Calorie estimation: Around 50-100 per shot + 0 for mixer
Metcalfe’s Skinny Popcorn
This chocolate drizzle flavour popcorn is absolutely delicious and really hits the chocolate spot. At first when I opened the bag I thought the makers were going pretty stingy on the chocolate, but then I reminded myself that this is a low calorie snack after all, therefore it will clearly not be coated in chocolate. The amount of drizzle actually works really well against the savoury-ness of the popcorn, and as the chocolate is dark the flavour goes further.
Calorie estimation: Around 200 for a large bag (I have been sharing one bag over two days)
Sainsbury’s Basics Berry Mix
Now, I’m slightly reluctant to share my new favourite shopping basket item with you as I suspect it’s already a staple with many as when I visit Sainsbury’s in Clapham Common the shelves are often empty. So, just in case the next time I visit the freezer shelf is empty, I always load 3 bags into my basket. I actually cannot believe how cheap this berry mix is as it’s a mere one pound in cost. It’s non basics equivilent comes in at over two pounds and it’s only in the basics range (in my opinion) as it’s a ‘mix’ of fruit. Who wants just one fruit in a bag anyway? So tasty, so cheap and one of your five a day. Amaze.
Calorie estimation: 25 for quarter of a bag (100g)
Covent Garden Soup of the month, Patatas Bravas
Tapas restaurants are obvs so in at the moment and Covent Garden Co has clearly jumped on the bandwagon. I loved this flavour soup. It has hardly any calories in it as it’s tomato based, but, as the name suggests, it has tiny bits of potato and a distinct pepper and paprika flavour right the way through it. Highly recommend this for a light Monday evening dinner with a yummy side salad.
Calorie estimation: Under 150 for half a carton
