I need not mention that I love crisps by now, I think you have probably already guessed that. So obviously it was a complete chore to try out the new seasonal Aberdeen Angus flavour from Burts.
I’ve always loved the packaging of Burts crisps. Their crisps look so smart and colourful and even the material the packet is made from is thick and good quality. They’re not my usual crisp of choice and this is not because of flavour or quality, I think Burts are a great brand of crisp. Their look is a bit different, they are not too thick or thin and they have a perfect amount of crunch and flavouring. Before writing this article my mum and I had a discussion at the weekend about how we wouldn’t typically buy Burts flavoured crisps as they seem expensive for such a small bag (we thought they were about £2). However, when I went to price check these crisps on Tesco Online’s Price Checker in the name of research (such a useful tool) I was pretty shocked. A bag of Burts crisps are priced at £1.59 for 150g bag, whereas Kettle Chips, who I see as their major competitors and would place as cheaper than Burts, are priced at £1.69 for a 150g bag (small detail I hear you cry but when talking value for money in this penny pinching time every little helps). This completely goes against the image my mum and I had of Burts. Perhaps Burts just go against the whole giving you a large bag but half fill it with air thing? Perhaps the bag just looks smaller? Anyhoo, now I have found out they are actually a cheaper crisp I may well be adding these to my shopping basket from now on.
Price and weight theories aside, these Aberdeen Angus ones really are great crisps. I am such a fan of full flavoured crisps – so much so the flavour can be over powering as I tend to eat a large amount. The Aberdeen Angus flavour is not quite like that. It’s pretty subtle which is what I was least expecting from a flavour name like Aberdeen Angus. But it’s a good subtle. And the flavour gradually builds up the more crisps you eat. This Aberdeen Angus bag of crisps is one thing you should definitely put down as a request on your mum’s Christmas food list, which is exactly what I shall be doing.
