Working in Covent Garden us media folk have our fair share of frozen yoghurt places. They’re a standard piece of the furniture around here. So when I popped along to visit Yuforia I wasn’t expecting anything unusual at all, but instead I found my latest obsession.
I am now a complete Yuforia convert. Yuforia literally has the yummiest frozen yoghurt I have ever tasted. Their menu has three flavours – natural, dark chocolate and their ‘special’ (pistachio on the day we went). I tested out the dark chocolate flavour, and my friend tried the pistachio. Both delicious, but I think the dark chocolate pipped it at the post. What was even better though was that both flavours didn’t have that slight natural yoghurt aftertaste (I find Snog has this). My heart leapt with glee when I found out that the yoghurts are live, full of protein and between 70-100 calories each. So really, what I’m saying is, there are clearly health benefits to eating something so delicious. What I also liked was the encouragement by the guy behind the counter to have as many toppings as we liked, none of that stingy ‘one topping each’ attitude here. Taking full advantage of this I loaded up mine with honeycomb, mini chocolate balls and chocolate flakes (clearly adding to the health benefits).
Yuforia sells itself as being the only frozen yoghurt company offering a ‘natural’ experience
with no artificial ingredients (they also offer loads of other toppings including fruit for the non chocolate obsessed). The walls are covered with plants and brick, the chairs are made of wood and the spoons, straws, and smoothie cups are made from plant starch. Yuforia concentrates on being as environmentally responsible as is possible and the spoon, straws and cups are bio-degradable, and once chucked in the flower bed, they’ll be gone in 6 weeks. This environment makes the place so much less clinical than other frozen yoghurt places (not naming any names….Snog).
All in all it is definitely worth giving Yuforia a whirl – you won’t go back to any other frozen yoghurt place after. They have a new Winter menu which includes an incredibly wicked looking hot chocolate and they are teaming up with Glorious! soups to offer something a little more hearty. You can find Yuforia in Beak Street and the lower level of Covent Garden’s Piazza, including the new Glorious! Soup Kitchen as of next week.
